Apple Volume Purchase Program (Apple VPP)

The Apple Volume Purchase Program (VPP) is a service that allows organizations that have registered for the Apple VPP to purchase iOS apps in bulk, but not at discounted prices.

After making a bulk purchase, the organization receives redemption codes for each app bought. The organization can then distribute app codes to individual users, who use the codes to "purchase" the app from the Apple App Store. Codes can be distributed to users through email, a Web portal or third-party mobile device management software.

Prior to iOS 7, once an end user redeemed a code, the app would be tied to the user's personal Apple ID. That meant that if the end user left the organization, the app would go with him. The Apple Volume Purchase Program in iOS 7, however, allows businesses and schools to retain ownership of purchased apps, so apps can be reclaimed and redistributed when needed.

There are two versions of the program: Apple Volume Purchase Program for Business and Apple Volume Purchase Program for Education.
