About Software license management in mobile and cloud environments
Mobile devices and the cloud can complicate software license management, because they make it more difficult to identify the applications and services that employees are using. Cloud environments in particular are so flexible that it’s not always easy to meet software license compliance. But license compliance is a must for businesses, so IT administrators need to pay extra attention to what services employees are using, how they are being used and what their software license requirements are. Software license management in the cloud is even more challenging because resource usage is dynamic, and the number of users and applications may change from day to day. Admins have to account for these changes when they acquire cloud services or mobile software, and they must maintain software license compliance when new apps are added. Software license management for mobile devices is also tricky because end users may not be aware of the licensing needs for the mobile software they add on their own.
